The Sheriff’s Office provides many services to Nottoway County citizens. Among them:
Provide law enforcement for Nottoway County — 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year.
Uniformed patrol
Serve civil papers & criminal warrants
Deputies of the Nottoway County Sheriff’s Office serve all civil papers. The Service fee for all in-state papers is $12.00 and for all out-of-state papers is $75.00. To determine if an address is in Nottoway County or to check the status of any civil paper previously sent to the Nottoway County Sheriff’s Office for service, please call (434) 645-9044 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Conduct criminal investigations
Drug Task Force team members
Receive and dispatch emergency and non-emergency calls
Provide courtroom security
Uniformed deputies of the Nottoway County Sheriff’s Office provide courtroom security for Circuit Court as well as Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
Crime Solvers
Crime Solvers is a community program geared toward public envolvement in the fight against crime. It offers rewards up to $1,000.00 and anonymity to citizens who provide information to Crime Solvers.
Promote the DARE (Drug Awareness Resistance Education) and Class Action programs
The DARE program is a positive approach to drug abuse education. It avoids scare tactics and relies on accurate information and a straightforward approach.
DARE lessons focus on:
Providing accurate information about drugs and alcohol,
Teaching students decision-making skills,
Showing students how to resist negative peer pressure,
Suggesting healthy alternatives to drug use,
Building self-esteem.
A uniformed DARE Deputy teaches the core curriculum at Nottoway Intermediate School and Kenston Forest School.
The Class Action Program works to :
Assist Virginia teens in developing a working knowledge of the law,
Encourage personal responsibility among Virginia teens,
Develop or continue police/youth relationship through prevention,
Strengthen community policing through prevention efforts.
A uniformed deputy teaches the Class Action Program at Nottoway Middle School and Nottoway High School.

9-1-1 is your emergency hotline for immediate access to law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services. It is a free call from a pay phone. Call 9-1-1 to report a crime, fire, heart attack, or other serious medical condition or injury, or any situation requiring immediate response of a fire truck, ambulance or law enforcement vehicle.

Please remember, do not call 9-1-1 for road, travel, or weather information; auto repairs or keys locked in the vehicle; or complaints of loud noise, littering, etc.
All prisoners are housed at the Piedmont Regional Jail (434-392-1601), in Farmville. The jail was constructed by and is operated under the authority of a regional consortium of counties, Nottoway County being a charter member of the group.
