Grant Award: $36,450.00
Equipment for Nottoway Sheriff’s Department and the Police Departments for the towns of Blackstone, Burkeville, and Crewe. Equipment that was purchased with this award included a Crime Scene / Command Unit Van, tactical equipment, generators, evidence bags, amplified lighting, video enhancement equipment, portable radio chargers, battery reconditioner, night vision goggles, helmets with face shields and 3 computer systems.

Local Interoperability Communications
It is the goal of Nottoway County to follow the initiatives set forth by the SHSGP and the Virginia Strategic Plan for Statewide Communications
Interoperability to develop a long range plan to bring our communication system in the county to a level where the first responders not only can communicate effectively with all agencies in the county, but also with local Mutual Aid Partners in the surrounding counties and the state. Nottoway County can accomplish the initial stages of our long range plan by participating in the COMLINC solution .The COMLINC solution will allow for agencies within the county and in other jurisdictions to communicate with each other regardless of the frequencies they use.

County Wide Housing Assessment
Nottoway County contracted the services of the Southside Outreach Group, Inc. to conduct a county wide assessment of housing and infrastructure needs. Six community meetings were held to collect citizen concerns in focus areas such as home ownership opportunity; substandard housing and housing that lack or have inadequate indoor plumbing, sewer and water needs; demolition and clearance of blighted and dilapidated structures.

Indoor Plumbing and Rehabilitation Program
Nottoway County has hired Mr. Earl Howerton of the Southside Outreach Group to administer the IPR program for the County. This program will help citizens with substandard housing and housing that lack or have inadequate indoor plumbing, sewer and water needs.

Nottoway County Regional Water Supply Plan
The Consultant firm of Dewberry and Davis was hired to perform this study. The Regional Water Supply Plan includes the County of Nottoway, and the Towns of Blackstone, Burkeville, and Crewe. This plan consists of:
- Spreadsheet or narrative summary of the required elements, Existing Water Source, Existing Water Use, and Existing Water Resource.
- Spreadsheet or narrative summary of the required elements, Projected Water Demand, Water Demand Management Actions, Drought Response and Contingency Plans, and Statement of Need and Alternatives.
- The final report completed of the required elements, Existing Water Source, Existing Water Use, Existing Water Resources, Projected Water Demand, Water Demand Management Actions, Drought Response and Contingency Plans, and Statement of Need and Alternatives.

NIMS Training and Training Exercise
Howlett and Associated, Inc. provided all labor, audiovisual material and supplies to conduct a training class covering the Virginia Department of Emergency Management mandated National Incident Management System (NIMS) training which included classes on NIMS and Basic ICS (IS-700 and IS-100) Training. This training was available to all First Responders and Elected Officials in the County.

Nottoway County Sheriff’s Office E-911 Log Recorder- A new 32 channel digital recording system will be able to handle both current and future service levels needed to support the increasing general public demands on the system. This grant included a 20% match.

Blackstone- Robert Thomas Carriage Museum
The Town of Blackstone has received a generous donation of authentic 19th Century horse drawn buggies, carriages, blacksmith accessories and a cash donation from the Robert Thomas Family. The Town of Blackstone, with Federal Enhancement dollars, is proposing to build a museum to house these historic transportation vehicles along with a blacksmith shop which will be located on land that the town has purchased adjacent to the historic Schwartz Tavern in Blackstone. Partial funding was awarded for this project in 2006 and the balance of funding required to complete the project has been awarded FY 2008. |
