The Nottoway County Planning Commission serves in an advisory capacity to the Board of Supervisors. They study development issues that often deal with planning and zoning, and offer comments and recommendations to the Board of Supervisors.

Planning Commission members are appointed by the Board of Supervisors and serve without compensation for a four-year term. They represent election districts and towns; one member from the Board of Supervisors also serves.

The Nottoway County Planning Commission meets the Tuesday before the third Thursday of each month. Meetings are held in the Health Department conference room and begin at 7:30 p.m.

Both the County Administrator and Assistant County Administrator attend Planning Commission meetings and provide staff assistance to the group.
